Description
Temple rubbings from Thailand are authentic images created by placing rice paper over ancient temple bas relief stone carvings, and rubbing charcoal or oiled cloths over the designs. This rubbing depicts a battle between good and evil, as it's Rama fighting the Demon King who kidnapped his wife Sita, all detailed in the epic Ramayana. This was probably created at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Rubbings are no longer allowed to be made, as it was discovered the process was damaging the carvings. Now only reproductions can be made, increasing the value of originals such as this one. Matted in cobalt blue Thai silk with a Greek key design frame. The frame is damaged, so please look at the pictures. The rubbing can be shipped without the frame, as well. Measure in frame 26.5 x 26.5.
