    Description

Collectible vintage/antique wooden carved marionette/string puppet.  Very good condition.    I believe that it was made in what is now Thailand--unknown vintage; others that I have seen on eBay date to the 1920s.    I am listing this for a friend who does not know the provenance of this puppet.
He has moving arms, legs, hands; moving male appendage, rolling eyes and a movable lower lip.  The hands are carved and jointed at the knuckles.  I believe the figure is made of teak wood.  Very nicely hand-painted details for for the face, hair and feet.
This puppet's wooden parts are in very good condition.  There is minimal wear, no gouges or discoloration of the wood.   What little defects there are would be from it being shuffled around in (air-conditioned) storage.  There are a few minor scrapes on top of his hair "bun".
The clothes are in good condition also--although a few holes in the jacket garment on the front and back and one sleeve--see pictures.  The fabric is probably silk and shows fading from age.   Otherwise no tears or stains; the sequin decorations are all intact, but show age also.
Everything else is in good condition:  the strings are strong with no fraying; all are attached to the parts of the doll.  All of the parts are attached together as designed with no weakening.   It appears to have never been used--the strings are still tied up for the original packaging.    The hand control is in perfect condition.   I am not sure about the purpose of the little pillow that is attached--maybe something for the puppeteer to rest an arm or wrist...
Before the advent of television, puppets like this were very popular and played a crucial role in culture and religion throughout Southeast Asia and beyond.
Dimensions: Approx: 24 inches (Can be seen in photos above).
    Materials: Teak Wood & Fabric
    Age: Circa 1920, 1930?
No returns for this item, it will be sold as-is.   I have tried to describe all aspects of the marionette and took the pictures to show the condition of the parts and pieces.
Very collectible.  Would be a great addition to your collection or a nice gift for someone who will appreciate it.  Thanks for looking; email with any questions.
