    You are looking at an
    Incredible Vintage Handmade Thai Demon Khon Dance Face Mask
    This piece is a life size traditional face mask and measures 8" tall. The colors are incredible and the 24K gold looks striking.
    Made from layers of paper mache and plaster. Real gold leaf, colored glass and jewels were applied to elaborate the head and facial details are painted on.
    Excellent vintage condition with one (real!) tusk missing. Ex Miami diplomat collection - acquired in the 1960s/70s.
    Measures 10" deep, 12" wide, 8" tall.
    Weighs approximately 3 lbs.
    Thai Khon masked drama is derived from Indian temple rituals and dancing and draws its story line from the Ramakian, the Thai version of the Indian epic Ramayana.  Khon was originally developed as an exclusively Royal entertainment, popular at the courts of Ayutthaya and later of Rattanakosin.
