an Old Sheffield Plate candlestick
. We believe this to be English & dating to the late 1700's, it has all the characteristics of old sheffield plate. All the edges have been folded under, there are no makers marks & where the copper shows through(on the rim base), the silver is much thicker than that found on later electroplate. This is a large candlestick, measuring just over 12" & about 5 3/4" across the base.
The condition is very good considering its age, very minor wear, light ding on the stem & small dings around the rim base. The felt liner under the base is stained & partially separated.
We do have a second matching candlestick but it has damage & a crude repair & we decided not to list it in this auction. The winning bidder will have the option to purchase it if they so desire.
