    Description

    CLOVES
    are the unopened buds of an evergreen tree. Their Latin name, clavus, means "nail." The buds from Madagascar are stronger in flavor, but smaller than those from Ceylon which have a milder flavor and a bigger head. In the USA, we use whole cloves primarily to stud ham or pork roast. Ground cloves are used in desserts, cakes, pies, custards, and liqueurs. Cloves can also be used to make lovely, long-lasting scented pomander balls.
